Last March 21st saw the second International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, organised by the United Nations. The aim of the day is to focus attention on daily actions to defend the human rights of others and appreciate diversity.
It’s sad that in the 21st century, we still need to call for mass action on human rights, but diversity is worth fighting for. It is something we all benefit from. We took the opportunity to look at how Orbium celebrates diversity and how the company has gained from it.
- Our differences fuel our personal growth and development
Diversity in our offices has supported growth. Exposure to different cultures helps our people learn and develop on a wider scale than exposure to a monoculture. This has supported their growth professionally and personally, and Orbium’s growth too.
- Having different cultures enhances our communication
Diversity develops communication skills that are essential in the global market. It forces us to find ways to bridge cultural gaps and identify common ground, delivering a competitive advantage for Orbium.
- Having different cultures enhances our reputation
A diverse workforce delivers a diverse company skill-set, which allows us to work more easily in different markets. We share our knowledge and experience of different cultures with each other, helping the team to quickly and efficiently find solutions. This is reflected in our reputation as a global company comfortable in different markets, and opens up more business opportunities, helping us grow.
- Our teamwork becomes deeper
Diversity encourages teamwork on a global scale. We adjust and adapt to work on a common goal. Through diversity, we establish a positive working environment that is firmly grounded on mutual respect – an essential ingredient to success.
Stephen R. Covey said: “Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.” We believe that our similarities have brought us together, but our differences have made us stronger. Even though we operate in different countries and have different nationalities, we know that we are working as one, towards a common goal: to deliver the best and simplest solutions to our clients while fostering diversity and teamwork. That is One Orbium.
